User Friendly:
All LINK Software is written in MS Excel which enables us to have a very user friendly platform.
Excel is well known and used throughout the dairy industry.

Flexibile:
Because it is written in Excel, data can be extracted easily and used in other programs.
Excel also accomodates expandability options very well.

"The # Cruncher"
A 10 Page, full color spreadsheet, complete with graphs and lots of charts that analyze feed costs, inventories and projected margins related to milk component pricing & rations
(great for presentations to bankers).

Introduction
-
In this program you only change data on a white background and all other cells are protected from having formulas overwritten.

As explained on the cover, different colored prints are related to different things whether milk production related, feeding related
or financial.

Two deferent versions are available. Version 5.1 has 12 months (all the info in this program on 1 tab each month) and a summary page that takes the 20 most pertinent numbers from each month. Version 5.3 covers 1 month's data and has a tab for each separate page
as seen on this web site.

"Inputs"
This is the main screen for data entry. All the data screens get information from this page.
Data for 12 different groups can be entered here. Most cells are pretty straight forward but a few need some explanation.
Component prices are entered per pound.

The Adjustments at the top override all the numbers below and will adjust all groups by the same percentage.
Interval means how many days between BST shots.
The rations go in on an as DM basis according to what is on the formulation papers and is adjusted to actual intake by the Intake Adjustment Factor above each ration.
Under the ration section, forages go above the double line and grains & minerals go below the double line. Forages prices go in on a dry matter basis (and are converted to an as fed basis) while grains go in on an as fed basis.

"Data-1"
This page looks at things that may not usually be thought of.
- Predicted Production and Component Value over the base
- Total expenses as % of income

- Labor Efficiency
- Cost per lb. of DM
- Income to Cost ratios
- Milk to DMI ratios

"Data-2"
This page contains core data and is probably the most used of all the pages in the program.
All the numbers here are calculated AFTER the adjustment factors are considered.
All is an average of all 12 groups.
- $ cow/Day (forages & grains separate)
- Income cow/day

- IOFC
- Adjusted intake #s
- Predicted monthly ingredient inventories

"Data-3"
Here are a couple graphs as well as a chart that looks at what happens if the milk price changes.
On this chart, the middle bar contains the information from the average of all 12 groups. As the milk price raises or drops ($.50 increments) you can see what happens to the changes in the IOFC (Income Over Feed Cost) on a per cow, per day or an annual basis.
Here you can also see how many extra cows are needed to maintain the income at the current production per cow average or how much extra milk they need to produce in order to maintain the income.

"Data-4"
If from previous pages we see one particular group that stands out, here we can look at the age of the group to see if that is a contributing factor.
Here we can also see what happens if we gain production or components at the current price structure. Which is more profitable?
Cost of rations at 100% of intake are posted here as well as the total milk production per group per day.
Block #27 breaks out groups by a quality premium incentive. Prices entered at the top of the Inputs page are used to show the potential value of controlling the quality of the milk.

"Data-5"
Simple graphs here.
Block #29 shows which group is most profitable according to their BST efficiency. The fewer cows on BST in any group will raise their cost efficiency of BST. Group #1 in this example has no cows on BST so all the income is accounted for.

"Data-6"
Here the cost of each ingredient per cow is shown AFTER using the Intake Adjustment Factor.
This can be used to show how much money we would save by pulling out a particular ingredient such as fat.

"Data-7"
This page shows the actual intake per cow on a Dry Matter basis AFTER using the Intake Adjustment Factor.

"Heifer-1"
Here we can enter data that pertains to other groups that are not milk cows.
Dry cows and young stock data have 2 pages of evaluations.
Note that there is a place to put additional forages and grains (remember the double line rule from the Inputs page).
Also note that the milk cow information under Farm 1 is atomically brought in from the other pages.

"Heifer-2"
After entering the cost of the ingredients you entered on the Heifer-1 page, you now have a summary of ingredient use and cost.
